I Like the Way You Switch...Bank Accounts, That is
Spring has arrived and is well under way, lending itself not only to warmer weather but also to the idea of fresh starts and new beginnings. For consumers, now is as good a time as any to review their banking provider and assess whether the service they’ve been receiving for 20 years, five years, or six months is still meeting their lifelong expectations and daily needs. Of course, for those who aren’t satisfi ed with their banking provider, there are plenty of local and national competitors from which to choose - appearing on every other street corner and exposing their services on televisions and radios, in newspapers and magazines, and through any other available media outlet; finding the time within non-stop schedules to switch accounts, however, is a less convenient task.
Several banks have streamlined the process of switching banks by creating proprietary switch kits or assisted switch programs for the no-strings-attached benefit of consumers. Each bank’s switching service more or less offers the same type of assistance - open a new bank account with the selected bank and then use provided forms online to close any old accounts and switch direct deposits and automatic payments.
The few banks advertising their switch service in this month’s issue include Chase, City National Bank, First Tennessee Bank, Lake Forest Bank & Trust, RBC Centura, Trustmark National Bank, and Union Bank of California. Few banks’ switch program have distinguishing charateristics, but there are some that offer unique tools worth mentioning.
Chase offers a switch demo online along with FAQ’s specifi cally geared toward the switch process; First Tennessee Bank allows new customers to print out and complete all the most common documents - Payroll Provider Notifi cation, Direct Deposit Request, Automatic Payment Request, and Close Account Request - and mail the forms or bring them to any branch to have the bank representative complete the entire switch process for them; and Lake Forest Bank & Trust provides a more detailed step-by-step process, complete with tips for switching accounts (like keeping your old account open for one to two months while the change is in process) and check lists that cover direct deposit accounts and automatic payments that consumers may have and need to convert.
Those banks that want to increase their switch appeal have nothing to lose and only gratitude to gain by offering a convenient switch program that allows customers to focus on the bigger picture and encourages them to take into consideration other products and services from a bank that goes above and beyond for its customers.
